The Swamp Is On Fire

January 11 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

TOD KIMBRO’S AWARD-WINNING ONE-MAN MUSICAL,

THE SWAMP IS ON FIRE, BRINGS LAUGHS, PATHOS & PERSPECTIVE TO THE STAGE

Created and Performed by TOD KIMBRO Directed by Jeff Forte

Despite his best efforts to escape the Sunshine State, Matthew Mark Matheson is stuck in rural Polk County once again. His painfully funny memories of growing up gay in an ultra-conservative Christian school intermingle with his current predicament, a risky affair with a deeply closeted good ol’ boy. This swampy stew of comedy, drama, twisted Floridian fables, and truly disquieting wildlife facts is set to a vibrant indie pop score and performed by one of the Fringe circuits’s most versatile and celebrated artists. It’s a soulful and bitingly funny study of the connections and consequences that reverberate across decades.

“The Swamp Is on Fire is an airboat of originality, and Kimbro tackles it with the intensity of an earthshaking epic.”

-Seth Kubersky, Orlando Weekly

“This charming musical, so pungent you can smell the swamp water, tells a coming-of age story with verve. Kimbro has a brilliant eye for capturing detail, and brings people and places to life so vividly that you can picture a full production number in your mind’s eye. Kimbra’s catchy and clever songs mix comedy and poignancy in a perfect recipe.”

-Matt Palm, Orlando Sentinel

The Swamp Is on Fire premiered at the 2025 Orlando Fringe Festival, where it won the Critics Choice award for Outstanding Solo Show (Musical). It marks Kimbra’s 29th creative contribution to the Fringe Festival scene. His script for Josephine, an acclaimed one-woman musical about the life of Josephine Baker, has been performed at venues and festivals all over the world.
