SUMMARY:An Evening with Erik Koskinen
DESCRIPTION:People know him in Minnesota\, where most bar bands seem to cover at least one of his songs\, but otherwise he’s still one of the best kept secrets in the country. He sings about an America that doesn’t get much play anymore\, the one where the people at the bottom can’t quite get ahead\, and where working people aren’t cartoon props in a culture war\, but shrewd human beings living hard lives\, and hard loves. His songs have the diamond-hard clarity and simplicity of Tom Petty\, and like Petty\, Koskinen can sing a literal statement without metaphor or ornament\, and make it move like poetry. SUMMARY:An Evening with Forrest Van Tuyl & Shadow Basket
DESCRIPTION:Forrest VanTuyl is a songwriter\, touring musician\, and working cowboy from rural Washington State. His unique approach to songwriting is one equally indebted to the transcendental spareness of Emmylou Harris’ Wrecking Ball as to his own experiences working with cattle and horses in the prairie and canyon country of Oregon and Washington. VanTuyl has worked as a backing musician and collaborator with critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Margo Cilker\, become a regular fixture at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko\, Nevada\, shared stages with Sera Cahoone\, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot\, and Corb Lund\, and been featured by The New York Times\, National Geographic\, NPR\, and KEXP. VanTuyl’s newest album Old Trails\, released in September 2025 on Fossil Records\, is peopled with characters just as concerned with the minutiae of feed trucks and fenceposts as with the enormity of their loves and longings. By overstuffing his songs with closely observed details of a modern-day cowboy’s work and life\, VanTuyl is consistently able to find the beating heart at the center of his deromanticized American West. \nShadow Basket is an indie folk/rock band from San Juan Island\, WA. They have toured through the PNW\, West Coast\, and Mountain West. Their upcoming album is scheduled to be released in August 2025. SUMMARY:The Rage of Achilles
DESCRIPTION:Achilles\, in his rage and pride\, breaks the script\, and refuses outright to give back Hector’s body to his grieving father Priam. This forces Homer to step in and make Achilles relive the story of his life leading up to this point in the hope that this journey will help reawaken Achilles’ empathy and cool the fires that rage within his heart. The Rage of Achilles is a play following the life\, love\, and mistakes of Achilles\, one of\, if not the most famous hero in the West. Despite this popularity\, Achilles’ story outside of the Iliad is not well known\, and is rarely told. This play follows Achilles’ life from meeting Patroclus all the way to his final conversation with Priam. All through the eyes of Achilles himself as he relives it alongside his guide Homer. This is a queer written piece and focuses heavily on the legendary love between Achilles and Patroclus. SUMMARY:Caitlin Canty Album Release Tour
DESCRIPTION:Caitlin Canty’s songs harness the grit and spark at the heart of American music\, tempered with a voice both haunting and distinct. Her new record\, Night Owl Envies the Mourning Dove (October 2025) marks a return to her roots\, a grittier and more electric Americana sound. Recorded live in the studio while nearly 8 months pregnant with her second child\, the songs can be seen in the light of major shifts in Cantys life\, from pre-parenthood city life in Nashville to present day raising a young family on a mountain in southern Vermont. She is currently touring Night Owl Envies the Mourning Dove with her four-piece band. \nSince the release of her critically-acclaimed Reckless Skyline in 2015\, Canty has put thousands of miles on her songs\, touring throughout the U.S. and Europe. A constant collaborator\, as a cowriter with Jamey Johnson and Peter Bradley Adams\, she also appears on albums by Joy Williams\, Jeffrey Foucault and Darlingside. She has performed at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass\, FreshGrass\, Tonder and Green Mountain Bluegrass and Roots festivals and won the Telluride Troubadour songwriting competition at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in 2015. DESCRIPTION:Sparrow Smith\, a multi-instrumentalist based in Marshall\, NC\, is well loved for her evocative songwriting\, tasteful banjo playing\, epic accordion chops\, and striking outfits. A longtime member and leader of multiple bands (most notably Resonant Rogues) with Keith Josiah Smith\, her husband and collaborator\, Sparrow is stepping out under her own name with a new album of Appalachian originals. Her journey into old time started in her late teens with freight trains and Tommy Jarrell tapes\, and her musical taste is also inspired by a lifelong love of dance. When not on tour\, Sparrow can be found in the North Carolina mountains where she teaches Womens Basic Carpentry and is building her own house from scratch. \nMatt Heckler is opening. \nMatt Heckler is the fiddle player you wish still existed. Hailing from the Catskill Mtns\, a physiographic subrange to the Appalachian chain\, Heckler has been embraced by mountain music and culture from early on. Self-taught on fiddle\, banjo and guitar\, he can weave together a night of songs from all over the world. DESCRIPTION:When you think of Canadian music\, who are the first contemporary artists that come to mind? \nIs it a globe-touring sextet that\, in a single set\, can be counted on to stomp through Celtic reels\, traditional Mexican folk\, fiddle tunes\, New Orleans brass band music\, classic pop songcraft\, bluegrass\, and even a philosophical waltz or two\, before bringing it all home with a Latino/West African singalong? \nI didn’t think so. \nIs it a fearless\, freewheeling band sometimes referred to as the “Los Lobos of Canada\,” veterans of an estimated 4\,300 shows since the band’s 1992 formation? \nWhat if I told you that this band doesn’t just exist—they flourish\, and have been converting full concert halls of indifferent strangers into devoted fans for the last 30 years? \nThe name of this musical collective is The Paperboys. They are a Canadian treasure. \nThe heart of The Paperboys is a trio of gifted songwriters and musicians: Founder Tom Landa\, a fedora-hatted vocalist/guitarist/bandleader who immigrated from Mexico to Canada in his teens; Kalissa Landa\, a lifelong fiddler/vocalist with a preternatural command of melody; and Spirit of the West’s flautist/guitarist/vocalist Geoffrey Kelly\, already a \nCanadian musical icon when he hopped on the P’boys bus in 1997. \nThough by no means a jam band\, The Paperboys reinvent their show every time they step onstage. Once the band agrees on the opening song\, there is no set list. The song finishes\, the crowd reacts\, Landa reads the room\, and the journey begins. Every night. The world has changed seismically since 1992\, but The Paperboys fan base has stuck with the band\, and \ngrown. “It goes beyond perseverance\,” Landa says about the band’s legacy\, “and into some kind of connectivity and resonance we have with people. We’ve created a community.” \nThough best known for their live show\, The Paperboys also have another ace up their sleeve: \nA deep and impressive discography. The band has released 10 recordings—including the \nJuno Award-winning Molinos—receiving accolades from MOJO Magazine and fRoots \nMagazine along the way. They’ve been two-time recipients of the West Coast Music Award\, composed scores for two films\, and been nominated for a Leo Award for best original song in the Hong Kong/Canada film release\, Lunch With Charles. \nAlthough perennially adored and praised by alternative media and national radio networks \nNPR and CBC\, commercial success has eluded the band. Undaunted\, The Paperboys have kept in perpetual motion\, building a cult following through the impact of its incendiary live show and proud DIY spirit. \n  \nEven the pandemic couldn’t silence The Paperboys. Tom and Kalissa maintained a warm connection with their homebound fans by posting their now-legendary Slipper Sessions online\, playing gorgeous\, stripped-down versions of their repertoire\, with their kids and cats sometimes wandering through the margins of the videos. \n“There are many ways to define success\,” Landa says. “ I get to make music with people I \nlove\, tour and see the world\, and connect with people through song.
