SUMMARY:Into the Woods
DESCRIPTION:Into the Woods:  “Be careful what you wish for” seems to be the ongoing theme in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Brothers Grimm inspired musical\, Into the Woods. The story follows The Baker and his wife who wish to have a child\, Cinderella who wishes to go to the King’s Festival\, and Jack who wishes his cow would give some milk. When the Baker and his wife are visited by the neighborhood witch\, who reveals to them that she placed a curse on their family\, the two set off on a journey into the woods to reverse the curse. Also in the woods\, we meet Little Red\, who is trying to visit her grandmother\, the Wolf who loves tasty little girls\, the Witch’s daughter Rapunzel\, and the Princes chasing after their loves. By the end of Act I\, everyone has gotten their wish and will seemingly live happily ever after. But in Act II\, when Jack’s beanstalk brings them a visit from an angry Giant\, we see how the consequences of their actions haunt them in disastrous ways. The community must come together to save each other and their kingdom\, but sacrifices must be made. \n  \nInto the Woods Is presented through special arrangement with Musical Theatre International (MTI) All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.  www.mtishows.com \n \n \nDates:   \nJan 18th 7pm \nJan 19th 2pm and 7pm (understudy performance) \nJan 24th 7pm (understudy performance)  \nJan 25th 2pm and 7pm \nJan 26th 2pm and 7pm \n \n \nTicket link:   INTO THE WOODS via ThunderTix

SUMMARY:Wizard People\, Dear Bellingham
DESCRIPTION:Willikers! The holiday season is upon and that can mean but one thing: the return of “Wizard People\, Dear Bellingham”! \nCome watch as Professor Brett Niley performs his surreal one-man reinterpretation of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” as a live band provides the score\, a foley artist performs live sound effects\, and a heavily mutated version of the film is projected behind them all. \nIt takes the fourth-wall-breaking of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and the schlock antics of Rocky Horror to delirious new heights. \nFor years a sold out event in Portland\, this show is hellbent on clawing its way into the wintertime heart of Bellingham. \n  \n$15 presale / $20 day of tickets available at the door. \nAdvanced tickets: https://newprospecttheatre.thundertix.com/events/236157

SUMMARY:Lonesome Ace Stringband
DESCRIPTION:Masters of their trade\, The Lonesome Ace Stringband brings grit\, skill\, and abandon to Americana music\, bridging old-time\, bluegrass and folk traditions into a seamless hybrid of original material that is at once fresh and timeless. \nThe trios sound is anchored in the fiddle and clawhammer banjo of John Showman and Chris Coole. They are joined by a rotating cast of extraordinary upright bassists (including founding member Max Malone\, Charles James\, and Lotus Wight). With spine-tingling harmonies and interchanging lead vocals\, there’s a depth of groove and sense of space not often heard in bluegrass today\, a level of instrumental interplay and vocal blend uncommon in old-time\, and an on-stage rapport that transcends all of this. As of 2023\, the band has toured internationally\, been engaged at some of the largest festivals in North America and Europe (including   Merlefest\, Rockygrass\, Wintergrass\, Winnipeg Folk Festival\, Vancouver Folk Festival\, Gooikorts\, John Hartford Memorial )\, and recorded 6 albums. \nThis is 21st-century acoustic music at its stripped-down\, sharply-rendered best!\n– Songlines Magazine \nThree powerful musicians\, playing and singing some powerful music\n– Bluegrass Unlimited \nTickets $22 advance / $25 day of: Lonesome Ace Stringband (brownpapertickets.com)

SUMMARY:Jeffrey Foucault Band with Erik Koskinen: Album Release Tour
DESCRIPTION:Jeffrey Foucault Band: Album Release Tour \nIn two decades on the road Jeffrey Foucault has become one of the most distinctive voices in American music\, refining a sound instantly recognizable for its simplicity and emotional power. With a string of critically acclaimed studio albums  Stark\, literate songs that are as wide open as the landscape of his native Midwest (The New Yorker)\, “Beat-up troubadour folk whittled to dolorous perfection (Uncut)\, Songwriting Brilliance\, (Irish Times)  hes built a brick-and-mortar international touring career and a devoted following\, one that includes luminaries like Van Dyke Parks\, Greil Marcus\, and Don Henley.\nIn September of 2024 Jeffrey Foucault will release THE UNIVERSAL FIRE (Fluff & Gravy\, 9/6/24)\, his first album of entirely new material since 2018. A series of high-voltage performances cut live in one room\, the album is both a working wake  Foucault lost his best friend and drummer Billy Conway\, to cancer in 2021  and a meditation on the nature of beauty\, artifact\, and loss.\nAugmenting Foucault’s all-star band with members of Calexico and Bon Iver (drummer John Convertino and producer/saxophonist Mike Lewis) THE UNIVERSAL FIRE sets Conways death against the massive 2008 fire at the Universal Studios lot in California that destroyed the master recordings of some of our bedrock American music\, to interrogate ideas about mortality\, legacy\, meaning\, and calling. \nErik Koskinen is an American singer-songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist and producer\, whose music is not categorized by sub-genres. Stylistically he is on his own while heavily influenced by American roots music. The rhythmic integrity and musical tone is as important as the lyrical content and the artistic intent. Koskinen has reverently entered the anthology of uniquely crafted wry songs with the likes of Woody Guthrie and Ry Cooder while speaking as plainly as your neighbor. The Minneapolis Star Tribune calls Koskinen “the real deal” and “The Best country songwriter in Minnesota” \nNov 10th: Jeffrey Foucault Full Band @ 7:30 pm\, $25 Adv\, $28 Day of Show \nTickets: https://jeffreyfoucault.brownpapertickets.com
