SUMMARY:When Jack Met Jill
DESCRIPTION:BELLINGHAM THEATRE GUILD presents Adam Szymkowicz’s wildly imaginative post-modern life story of fable-famous Jack and Jill (post-bucket and out of chronology!) as their first production on the Lucas Hicks stage. \nDirected by Suzanne Mackay and a cast of fabulous local actors\, WHEN JACK MET JILL follows the mostly-post-bucket lives of the famous couple throughout time and the ages as they struggle with the definitions of their relationship to each other.  This goofy adult travail\, like most of Szymkowicz’s work\, mixes light and dark with a contemporary wariness of either. \n“WHEN JACK MET JILL is produced by special arrangement with THE GERSH AGENCY\, 41 Madison Avenue\, 29th Floor\, New York NY  10010 \nThe Bellingham Theatre Guild is a volunteer theater that has been serving the Whatcom County community since 1927.  More information about BTG can be found at www.bellinghamtheatreguild.com. \nUM ROLL PLEASE** Congratulations Bellingham Theatre Guild with their performance of “When Jack Met Jill” at #kaleidoscope23. SUMMARY:“LEND US YOUR EARS Sixth Season Kick-Off
DESCRIPTION:THE BELLINGHAM THEATRE GUILD’s reading series announces its up-coming shows and showcases two original works in a Pay-What-You-Will evening.\nLEND US YOUR EARS\, the reading series at the Bellingham Theatre Guild\, presents their “LUYE Sixth Season Kick-Off” at the New\nProspect Theatre on Friday September 8th\, at 7:30pm. The evening will include readings of two originals works and reveal the slate of plays readings throughout BTG’s 2023-2024 season.\nThe Pay-What-You-Will performance includes two short plays\, Five Micro-Plays Near the End and Building Self-Esteem\, directed by the playwright and artistic director of LUYE\, Sean Walbeck. The Micro-Plays are five short plays and monologues near the moment of a death and Building Self Esteem follows an on-line therapy scam that may actually work. Silly\, touching and short\, these plays will be\nperformed by top-notch local actors\, and include adult language and situations. Sean Walbeck\, and hopefully LUYE’s season’s directors\, will also announce the dates and performances of the readings throughout LUYE’s Sixth season.\nLEND US YOUR EARS (with the mission: Good Plays Read Well) produces matinee readings with local actors in front of the curtains\, with general admission seating and the audience choosing what it wants to pay. SUMMARY:Pass Over
DESCRIPTION:PASS OVER\, by Antoinette Chinonye Nwandu is heading to Bellingham! \n  \nThe Bellingham Theatre Guild at New Prospect Theatre will be hosting Stage Left Theater’s production of Pass Over on Saturday\, September 9. \n  \nPass Over recently took top honors at the American Association of Community Theatres’ (AACT) national competition in Louisville\, Kentucky. Awards included Best Play\, Best Director\, and Best Ensemble. The national win comes after the troupe took a host of awards at state and regional competitions in Tacoma\, Washington and in McMinnville\, Oregon. \n  \nMoses and Kitch stand around on the corner – talking shit\, passing the time\, and hoping that maybe today will be different. As they dream of their promised land\, a stranger wanders into their space with his own agenda and derails their plans. Emotional and lyrical\, Pass Over crafts everyday profanities into poetic and humorous riffs\, exposing the unquestionable human spirit of young men stuck in a cycle just looking for a way out. A provocative riff on Waiting for Godot\, Pass Over is a rare piece of politically charged theater by a bold new American voice. (Concord Theatricals\, 2023). \n  \nStage Left’s production includes Dahveed Bullis as Moses\, Matthew Slater as Kitch\, and Danny Anderson as Mister/Ossifer. The play is 52 minutes long with no intermission. Other troupe members include Malcolm Pelles (Director)\, Michael Schmidt (Stage Manager)\, Alana Shepherd (Lighting Designer)\, and Jeremy Whittington (Scenic and Sound Designer). The troupe performed an encore performance at Gonzaga University in July\, but this will be their first out-of-town tour of the play after the trip to nationals. \n  \nAdvanced Tickets: Pass Over via ThunderTix \n  \nKaleidoscope Combo (both When Jack Met Jill and Pass Over): Kaleidoscope Combo via ThunderTix

SUMMARY:Sofia Talvik
DESCRIPTION:Unmistakably Nordic in flavor\, Sofia Talvik somehow still conforms to American interpretations of her own original music\, a North Sea siren blending sparkle and melancholy. A veteran performer with 7 full length albums as well as numerous EPs\, singles and tours behind her. \nThe latest album “Paws of a Bear” released in September 2019 gained a lot of critical acclaim in both the U.S and Europe\, charting on the top lists of U.S Folk Radio\, Roots Music Report and Euro Americana Charts. The first single “Take Me Home” stayed in the top 10 of U.S Folk Radio Charts for several months. Many of the songs of the album are on the theme of home and identity. \n“A keen songwriter\, the indie folk artist crafts beautiful soundscapes of subtle\, rootsy timbres that place the pristine storyteller’s voice at their center. In this case of developing savvy arrangements that highlight her haunting vocals\, the roots music that Talvik develops is of a similar tapestry to Joni Mitchell\, tapping into that same knack for soul-stirring clarity and resonance. Between\, however\, is something of a different nature. Open-air production sets the scene for an evocative and atmospheric release from the Swedish folk artist.” – PopMatters \nAdvance tickets $22 : https://newprospecttheatre.thundertix.com/events/215227 \nDay of tickets $25 (if available) can be purchased at the door

SUMMARY:Tommy Prine Album Release Tour - Jordan Smart is opening
DESCRIPTION:Tommy Prine’s debut album “This Far South” coming June 23\, 2023 is not only a long awaited introduction but a testimony to Prine’s 20’s and the loss\, love\, and growth that has defined them. Co-produced by close friend and kindred musical spirit\, Ruston Kelly\, and beloved Nashville engineer and producer\, Gena Johnson\, the album is rich and dynamic from cathartic jams to nostalgic storytelling. \nThe son of late songwriting legend\, John Prine\, Tommy Prine grew up in Nashville surrounded by music\, art and writing. As a child\, he thought all parents were musicians\, as his father “going to work” meant performing shows for adoring fans and writing songs. Tommy learned to play guitar by watching his father play\, copying the ways his fingers moved and inadvertently developing his own singular style. Summers in Ireland lent their own inspiration\, as did 10 straight years camping at Bonnaroo. Prine’s musical tastes grew to become decidedly eclectic\, spanning John Mayer\, Outkast\, Bon Iver\, the Strokes and more. \nIt wasn’t until Prine reached his mid-twenties\, though\, that he considered a career of his own in music and began to share with others the songs he wrote in private. His songs were quickly met with excitement and enthusiasm\, which sonically brings together a colorful patchwork of musical influences and lyrically explores existential questions and emotional experiences. \nThe album’s title track\, “This Far South\,” marks a turning point in Prine’s life as he found himself struggling to escape a dark\, aimless period. He ultimately found the courage to act on choices that would see him to the other\, brighter\, side. \n“There were several years where I felt without purpose\, spent all my time partying\, and just existing. I found myself at a fork in the road and chose the better path\, and in that moment\, I swore I would never be This Far South again.” \nGrief is a major throughline of Prine’s current work. In 2017\, Prine lost his best friend to an overdose. \n“Since then\, I have lost some more friends and have others who are still navigating the ups and downs of struggles with drug abuse.” \nHis song\, “Letter To My Brother\,” was written as a message to the friends he’s lost\, those in Recovery\, and to friends who are still struggling. \nHe still grapples with the passing of his father in April of 2020. “The world lost one of the greatest songwriters of all time\, but I lost my dad.” Prine bears the loss of his father and the memories he carries for others on the track\, “By The Way.” \nTickets: Tommy Prine Album Release Tour (brownpapertickets.com)
