SUMMARY:A John Prine Christmas with the Jenner Fox Band (Night One)
DESCRIPTION:A John Prine Christmas \nEver wonder what John Prine has to do with Christmas? Ever wished the beloved songwriter had more to do with sleigh bells\, eggnog\, and Old Saint Nick. Well\, in 1994 Prine released his 11th LP titled\, “A John Prine Christmas.” The critics didn’t acclaim it much\, but with titles such as “Silent Night All Day Long ” and “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus\,” it’s still Prine at his lovely wry best\, bringing Christmas home. \nWe are proud to present “A John Prine Christmas” – a night of your favorite songs featuring folk troubadour and Prine scholar\, Jenner Fox\, with his all-star band. The evening will weave together Prine’s classic hits\, his holiday themed songs\, stories\, and lots of singing along. Come prepared to laugh and cry and ho ho ho your way through celebrating a true American original. \nThe Bellingham\, WA based band features piano\, electric guitar\, bass\, acoustic guitar\, and rich vocal harmonies. \nJenner Fox Band \nThe evening will weave in Jenner Fox’s critically acclaimed originals. Known for his poignant and humorous storytelling\, “Jenner combines the lyricism of Joni Mitchell and the commentary of Neil Young to represent the next generation of singer-songwriters” (Grammy-nominated producer Cookie Marenco). The band’s debut LP\, Anything\, earned high praise: “There’s a quiet magic in the way they play together — in how each instrument listens\, breathes\, and responds — the soul-stirring\, spirit-settling debut is worth savoring from start to finish” (Atwood Magazine). Since 2015\, Fox has released ten albums of original music and toured extensively across the country. \nTickets: https://tadpoleproductions.thundertix.com/events/270310

SUMMARY:Bakersfield Mist
DESCRIPTION:Playwright: \nStephen Sachs \nDirector: \nAnn Smith \nInspired by a true story\, the play follows Maude\, a blunt\, funny\, down-on-her-luck bartender living in a Bakersfield\, California trailer park\, who is convinced the painting she bought at a thrift store for a few dollars is a lost Jackson Pollock. When Lionel\, a renowned and thoroughly buttoned-up New York art authenticator\, arrives to examine it\, a simple yes-or-no verdict becomes a sharp\, often hilarious\, and unexpectedly moving argument about class\, expertise\, art\, and who gets to decide what's real. Equal parts comedy and drama\, it is a trash versus-treasure yarn for an age when it is harder than ever to know what’s genuine. \nThe play is based on the real-life story of Teri Horton\, a retired truck driver who bought a large abstract painting at a thrift store for $5 and spent years insisting it was a Pollock. Since its debut\, Bakersfield Mist has been staged around the world\, including a London West End production starring Kathleen Turner and Ian McDiarmid. \nContent Disclosures: \nMature language\, depictions of suicide \n \nTickets: Bakersfield Mist via ThunderTix \nTicket Price: \n$18 for regular\, $15 for students/seniors (use coupon code MistStudent/Senior)

SUMMARY:Erik Koskinen with Jon Neufeld
DESCRIPTION:Erik Koskinen is a lights-out guitar (player) and his band is as good as any band in the country. But he’s also a top-shelf writer\, with a blade-sharp wit and love songs so real and tender they seem to transcend the form. I know of few writers whose relationship to their own landscape\, in this case the rural north\, is so elemental\, and so integral. His songs feel like weather. \nPeople know him in Minnesota\, where most bar bands seem to cover at least one of his songs\, but otherwise he’s still one of the best kept secrets in the country. He sings about an America that doesn’t get much play anymore\, the one where the people at the bottom can’t quite get ahead\, and where working people aren’t cartoon props in a \nculture war\, but shrewd human beings living hard lives\, and hard loves. His songs have the diamond-hard clarity and simplicity of Tom Petty\, and like Petty\, Koskinen can sing a literal statement without metaphor or ornament\, and make it move like poetry. \nJon Neufeld is a highly respected multi-instrumentalist\, producer\, and audio mastering engineer. Known for his innovative and versatile guitar work\, he plays across genres ranging from bluegrass to indie rock and gypsy jazz. \nHe is a longtime member of the Portland bluegrass staple Jackstraw and the gypsy jazz outfit The Kung Pow Chickens. He was also a member of the indie roots band Black Prairie (with members of The Decemberists)\, appearing with them on The Tonight Show and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert\, and has toured with the indie-pop band Dolorean. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets: Erik Koskinen with Jon Neufeld via ThunderTix
