SUMMARY:Antje Duvekot
DESCRIPTION:Originally born in Germany and transplanted to the US as a young teen\, Antje Duvekot began to hone her observational skills through a lens of biculturalism when she picked up a guitar during that move. Some years later\, the confessional folk of Dar Williams and Ani DiFranco gave her license to share her observations\, no matter how personal. Since her first emerging original songs\, she has never let go of that tenet of vulnerability. \nAntje has extensive touring experience. She is a compelling live performer and has been invited to play top festivals\, such as the Newport Folk Festival\, Mountain Stage\, Philadelphia\, and Kerrville Festivals and others. Internationally\, she’s headlined the Celtic Connections Festival in Scotland and the Tonder Festival in Denmark. Antje has won some of the top songwriting awards\, including the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition and the “Best New Folk Award” at Kerrville. In one of the nation’s top music markets\, she won the Boston Music Award for “Outstanding Folk Act”. \nTickets: Antje Duvekot via ThunderTix

SUMMARY:Even More Uncle Bonsai - CD Release Party
DESCRIPTION:Last May\, when Uncle Bonsai returned to Bellingham for the first time in almost 10 years\, the group recorded the show for inclusion in a brand new release. Now\, one year later\, the group is thrilled to return to the New Prospect Theatre\, on Sunday\, May 17th\, for the Bellingham release concert! Now in its 45th year\, Uncle Bonsai presents “UNCLE BONSAI LIVE: selections from 7 Sins\, 7 Wonders\, 7 Dwarfs – a song cycle\,” the group’s 11th recording\, featuring 20 brand new songs\, some which were recorded at the New Prospect Theatre! This year\, you’ll hear some of those songs\, some of the “Sevens” songs that weren’t performed\, new songs\, new old songs . . . it’ll be an adventure. PLUS it’s Andrew’s birthday so\, of course\, there’ll be chocolate cake! \nAnd just what IS Uncle Bonsai? Imagine what might happen if Tim Burton and Edward Gorey hijacked the Andrews Sisters en route to a Stephen Sondheim festival with The Beatles and Tom Lehrer in the sidecar; you’d get Seattle super-harmonizers Uncle Bonsai. With just three voices and an acoustic guitar\, Bonsai presents an often dizzying vocal array of intricate harmony. Their songs\, dark and hilarious at times\, just as often delight with moments of great insight and beauty. The trio aligns itself with the under-achiever\, the dejected\, the outsider\, the black sheep. Densely-packed lyrics fly by in a whir at times\, and take a skewed stance on topics such as first-world problems\, the creation of the universe\, the afterlife\, and\, of course\, holidays with the family. Uncle Bonsai’s acoustic folk-pop songs are almost one-act plays or short stories\, resisting strict pop\, folk\, or singer-songwriter categories. Their songs focus on the passing of time\, the passing of genes\, and the passing of pets – the truth of everything seemingly buried somewhere under the family tree. \n“A folk-pop trio from Seattle\, Uncle Bonsai performs funny original songs whose exquisite musical detail and subtle needling wit attain a level of craft not often seen in pop” – NY Times \nTickets $22 Even More Uncle Bonsai – CD Release Party via ThunderTix

SUMMARY:Tony Furtado Duo feat. Luke Price
DESCRIPTION:Tony is an evocative and soulful singer\, a wide-ranging songwriter and a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist adept on banjo\, cello-banjo\, slide guitar and baritone ukulele who mixes and matches sounds and styles with the flair of a master chef (he’s also an accomplished sculptor\, but that’s another story). All of the music of America is in Tony’s music. Relix hit the nail on the head when writing of Tony: “True talent doesn’t need categories.” \n“Tony Furtado\, banjo player\, is back…in a big way\,” writes banjo master Tony Trischka in his liner notes to Decembering\, the brand-new album from Tony Furtado. “He’s planted his flag in the midst of the fertile ground that is modern banjo. Texturally fresh\, confidently audacious\, rich and giving\, this recording is a masterpiece.” Decembering is a welcome return to the banjo and a much-needed ray of sunshine and light in these troubled times. \nTony has performed throughout the world at top venues and appeared at such prestigious music festivals as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival\, High Sierra Music Festival\, Jazz Aspen\, Kerrville Folk Festival\, Strawberry Music Festival\, Winnipeg Folk Festival\, Sisters Folk Festival\, San Jose Jazz Festival and countless others. He especially values the opportunities he has had to tour with such legendary musicians as Gregg Allman and with such esteemed slide guitarists as David Lindley\, Derek Trucks and Sonny Landreth. \nLuke Price \nFive-time Grand National Fiddle Champion Luke Price is a multi-instrumentalist performer\, composer\, and studio musician based in Portland\, OR. He has his roots in American fiddling and swing traditions\, but his interests and influences are diverse ranging through Soul\, Jazz\, Pop\, and Americana. Luke is a Berklee School of Music alum and regularly plays and sings in a vintage soul/pop tinged band\, “Love\, Dean” alongside his wife Rachael Price. Luke brings a unique voice to any music he plays\, whether he’s on the fiddle\, guitar\, or singing. \nTickets $25 Advanced sale: Tony Furtado Duo feat. Luke Price via ThunderTix \n  \n
