SUMMARY:Uncle Bonsai
DESCRIPTION:In August 1981\, when three Seattle newcomers came together and learned a few songs to busk at the Bumbershoot gates — they made just enough to get into the festival — no one had any idea that they’d be still going strong 43 years later. Now in its 44th year\, Uncle Bonsai returns to Bellingham\, for their first show in almost 10 years\, with a brand new member\, the amazing Kat Bula\, and whole bunch of new songs! (Don’t worry\, you’ll still hear some of your favorites!) And what can you expect? Well\, it’s still an Uncle Bonsai show! You’ll hear songs from their 10 recordings\, a lot of new songs\, and selections from their “Seven Sins\, Seven Wonders\, Seven Dwarfs” song-cycle. \nAnd just what IS Uncle Bonsai? Imagine what might happen if Tim Burton and Edward Gorey hijacked the Andrews Sisters en route to a Stephen Sondheim festival with The Beatles and Tom Lehrer in the sidecar; you’d get Seattle super-harmonizers Uncle Bonsai. With just three voices and an acoustic guitar\, Bonsai presents an often dizzying vocal array of intricate harmony. Their songs\, dark and hilarious at times\, just as often delight with moments of great insight and beauty. The trio aligns itself with the under-achiever\, the dejected\, the outsider\, the black sheep. Densely-packed lyrics fly by in a whir at times\, and take a skewed stance on topics such as first-world problems\, the creation of the universe\, the afterlife\, and\, of course\, holidays with the family. Uncle Bonsai’s acoustic folk-pop songs are almost one-act plays or short stories\, resisting strict pop\, folk\, or singer-songwriter categories. Their songs focus on the passing of time\, the passing of genes\, and the passing of pets – the truth of everything seemingly buried somewhere under the family tree. \n“A folk-pop trio from Seattle\, Uncle Bonsai performs funny original songs whose exquisite musical detail and subtle needling wit attain a level of craft not often seen in pop”  – NY Times \nAdvance tickets $22           https://newprospecttheatre.thundertix.com/events/243409 \n  \nDay of Show tickets $25 available at the door. Doors open at 6:30pm

SUMMARY:SeaMAN
DESCRIPTION:By Amica Hunter & Bruce Ryan Costella (2 Sleepy RatGuys) \nThe spray of sea salt\, the creak of the boards\, a flash of lightning\, and BOOM! Captain Sea Man has arrived. Looks like your 30 Minute Scenic Boat Tour just got a little bit more interesting.. This show is a whirlwind revenge-fueled sea-venture combining clever text with outrageous physical comedy and a few dark twists and turns. Centering the life and stories of a salty old sea captain alternately played by two actors\, seaMAN is a one-man-show by two featuring the saltiest sailor to ever set sail on the several seas. \nPrepare yourself for a hilarious on-stage scenic boat tour that promises fishing\, the ocean breeze … and SO much more. Whether it’s dodging storms\, fighting a seagull\, or displeasing a mermaid\, it’s always Captain Sea Man vs. the entire ocean. His stories can hold you captive even as he steers you further from the safety of the harbor. He lies. He cheats. And he DOESN’T KISS BOYS. \nConceived and performed by award-winning fringe festival veterans Amica Hunter (ANATOMICA) and Bruce Ryan Costella (Rat Man Happy Place)\, seaMAN is a one man show… by two. A sweet & salty theatrical concoction that is as stupid as it is smart. Like the illegitimate love child of Gilligan’s Island and Robert Eggers’ The Lighthouse. \n60 min long\, no intermission\, NC-17 \n$15 Student / $20 Early Bird / $25 General Admission \nTickets: seaMAN: a nautical REVENGE comedy! Tickets\, Sat\, Jul 5\, 2025 at 8:00 PM | Eventbrite \n★★★★ \n“Campy\, hilarious and horrifying… For adults with a silly side”-The Edmonton Journal \n“Relentlessly nutty”-12th Night CA \n“An unexpected delight”-League of Cincy Theatres \n“It’s strange. It’s funny. It makes no sense. That’s what makes it so good.”-Kings River Life Magazine \n

SUMMARY:Bad Posture Club's Album Release Show
DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebrating the release of Affinity\, a new album by queer folk duo Bad Posture Club. With Affinity\, Bad Posture Club’s signature sparse and honest style is enriched by the soft ambient drone of a 102-year-old acoustic pump organ. The instrument is a “Chaplains Organ\,” crafted during World War I and played during funeral services near battlefields and aboard ships. A century later\, Bad Posture Club seeks a similar purpose: to create something transcendent from the raw materials of daily life in response to a chaotic and deeply troubled world. Still Affinity finds humor in unexpected placessometimes offering a eulogy\, sometimes a pep talk. \nBad Posture Club is made up of Maren Day and Morgan Kavanagh\, collaborators for over 10 years. Originally from Bellingham Washington\, they’ve spent the last seven years based in Minneapolis as well as touring nationally. Recently\, they’ve returned to the Pacific Northwest where they continue to craft intricate and experimental harmonies\, inviting the listener to hear the power in quiet\, intimate music. \nZach Bryson & Marina Madden Open the Show: \nZach Bryson writes songs and sings them wherever people will let him and the Greyhound will take him. Currently residing in Nashville\, TN\, he enjoys playing music and writing about himself in the third person. \nMarina Madden is a songwriter and farmer who grew up in the Charlottesville Irish and Old Time folk communities. Her songwriting leans Americana with threads of the people\, places\, and artists who have influenced her along the way. Though she’ll always call the mountains of Virginia home\, she currently lives in Nashville. \nAdvance tickets $16 / Day of tickets $20: Bad Posture Club’s Album Release Show
