SUMMARY:Public Domain Movies - "Coconuts"
DESCRIPTION:*The Cocoanuts* (1929) is the first Marx Brothers feature film\, a musical comedy set during Florida’s 1920s land boom. Groucho plays Mr. Hammer\, a struggling hotel owner scheming to sell worthless real estate while dodging creditors. Meanwhile\, jewel thieves hatch a plan to steal a wealthy guest’s necklace\, and a romantic subplot unfolds between Polly Potter and architect Bob Adams. The film\, adapted from the 1925 Broadway musical\, features classic Marx Brothers comedy\, including the famous “Why a duck?” routine. \nOne of the earliest sound films\, *The Cocoanuts* recorded its musical numbers live rather than pre-recording them. The film showcases the talents of Mary Eaton\, Kay Francis\, and Margaret Dumont alongside the Marx Brothers. \nTickets: https://newprospecttheatre.thundertix.com/orders/new?performance_id=3126279

SUMMARY:Public Domain Movies - "Big News"
DESCRIPTION:*Big News* (1929) is a crime-comedy film directed by Gregory La Cava\, following the struggles of Steve Banks\, a newspaper reporter whose drinking habits strain his marriage to fellow journalist Margaret. When Steve is fired\, he becomes entangled in a dangerous investigation into a drug ring. His situation worsens when his editor is murdered\, and he finds himself framed for the crime\, forcing him to fight for his reputation and freedom. \nReleased just weeks before the **Stock Market Crash of 1929**\, which triggered the Great Depression\, the film captures a period of uncertainty and upheaval. Carole Lombard\, credited as “Carol” at the time\, would later become a Hollywood icon. The film survives today in a 16mm reduction print\, preserving its early sound-era charm despite the economic turmoil that followed its release. \nTickets: https://newprospecttheatre.thundertix.com/orders/new?performance_id=3126278

SUMMARY:Jenner Fox Band Album Release Show with Schmid & Guest Opening
DESCRIPTION:The Jenner Fox Band will be celebrating the release of their new album\, Anything\, at the New Prospect Theatre. \nThere is something that happens inside a good song. A tootsie roll can take you back to your elementary school playground; a list of baby names becomes a prayer; the voice of a toothless refrigerator man reminds you to say I love you. Jenner Fox tells the stories of people and places with unparalleled compassion and respect. His artful tone\, poetry\, and fluency on his guitar do something only the brave ones do: let us in. \nJenner combines the lyricism of Joni Mitchell and the commentary of Neil Young to represent the next generation of singer-songwriters.  Grammy nominated producer\, Cookie Marenco\nSince their conception on an experimental cargo bicycle tour through California in 2021\, the Jenner Fox Band has delighted audiences up and down the west coast. The five piece band features pacific northwest all-star musicians on piano\, organ\, electric guitar\, bass\, dobro\, acoustic guitar\, and layered vocal harmony. \n \nSchmid & Guest will open the show. \nCayley Schmid and Aaron Guest met at the Bellingham Farmers Market in 2009. Desperately jealous of each other’s busking success\, they neutralized the competition and started a band together. This was the beginning of a decade-long musical partnership that descended into marriage. After the retirement of their band\, Polecat\, in 2020 Aaron and Cayley found themselves musically unsupervised by their bandmates for the first time. Together they play instrumental Celtic music on fiddle and piano. \nJenner Fox Band is the rare act that comes along and doesnt sound like anybody else. They are not to be missed.   Jim Goodwin\, Jive Radio DJ \nAdvance tickets: Jenner Fox Band Album Release Show
